Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the dermis, the layer of skin immediately under the surface. In newborns, it’s quite plentiful, but gradually diminishes as we age. In fact, decreasing hyaluronic acid correlates closely with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
